Ambulation, what I hope to see

Welcome to the first installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

This month’s topic comes to us from PsycheDiver: Ambulation: What are your hopes for your avatar and new functionality of stations?

Ambulation – what I hope to see

There has been a lot of discussion about this awesome future expansion work that is coming soon.  CCP has been working to evole our in game avatars to make them full body, virtual characters that are supposed to leave the ship and walk around inside the station.

The EVE Blog Banter discussion point this round is on what we hope we will be able to do with the Ambulation expansion.  Personally, I am looking forward to being able to revamp my avatar a bit, get more of a 3-D feel to the character.  I am also looking forward to the inscreased imersion factor of being able to interact with my fellow capsuleers in something other than my ship.

It leads to some interesting potential interactions.  Being a pirate, what would it be like when I encounter a group of of victims in the bar at the station?  Will all those exotic dancers I loot from wrecks be able to fund work at the local peeler establishment on station?

Will we be able to hang all those corpses on the walls of our corp HQ meeting hall?

Things that I would also like to see and I know I am showing my geekiness here.  I would actually like to see working computer terminals that allow you to have an active web browser session running.  How cool would it look to see one of my fellow bloggers, sitting at a data terminal in a station, writing a blog entry.

I would actually like to see NPC workers, loading ammo into the cargo hold of my ship.  I would like to see NPC nurses attending to someone who just cloned at the station medial complex.

I would like to be able to look out a station window and see those ships engaging in battle or waiting at the undock point.

Will we be able to hope on one of those NPC transports and move between stations in a system?  That would be really cool.  Sitting in a seat, looking out a window, taking public transportation between stations.

In all seriousness, this expansion to the EVE Online world leaves so many possibilities for intereaction and another level to the game play I can hardly wait.  I am looking forward to it.

Great post! I guess we may finally find a use for those exotic dancers after all…

    Hope you enjoyed the topic!

I agree with our post and am a little amazed at how it reflects my thoughts…seem we all are looking forward to a little more immersion.

Nice ideas…the corpses one had me giggling! Imagine the props you might adorn them with…sunglasses, bikini’s, funky hats…oh if I EVER get Kirith’s corpse, such plans I have for it!…*grin*

Seriously…I’m not so keen on the “background” details that just consume bandwidth (like NPCs loading freight) but more on interactive mechanics with people and things that support the gameplay themes in place already…missions, exploration, market domination, corporate treachery, etc. And I want to look real damn cute when I’m engaging in all those kinds of things.

I really like the idea of being able to see whats outside the station. Great ideas, and this is going to be awesome when it launches!

Great site here dude, thanks. Can’t wait for the latest enlargement, Cataclysm. Knowing Blizzard though I wouldn’t be shocked if it came out in 2011!
