Usually, most people would have an alt pop their pod and keep the isk, hence the flaw in the bounty system in EVE.

Being a new member of Ushra’Khan and with so many people “offering to help me with my bounty”, I thought it would be rather fun to do something else rather than have an alt pop me and keep the isk.

Back in Neo Spartans, when we would catch a pod and they would not pay the ransom, we would hold a “drone lottery”.  For those of you who do not know, a Drone Lottery is where everyone in the gang would launch 1 drone and after a countdown, everyone would attack the pod with the drones.  The person who got the killmail would receive 1 million isk from each member of the gang.

So, I said to myself, why not?  This past Sunday, while everyone in the alliance was high with joy at making it to the finals in the alliance tournament, I announced a POD lottery, where the winner would get the bounty that was on my head.

Call it completing my ‘Pirate Penance’, cleanse my soul as it was and get rid of the bounty on my head.

I had everyone who was in on the lottery lock me up and launch one drone of their choosing.  Needless to say, after the countdown from 5 to 1, as soon as I said engage, roughly 2 milliseconds I was back at my medical station in a new clone.

Congratulations are in order for NCC 1701E who was able to insta-pop my pod.  Good job sir, enjoy the 50 million isk mate and thank you for taking that bounty off my head!!

I have been spending a nice amount of time playing EVE with my fellow corpies.  General ‘yarring’ about has yielded kills, ransoms (both isk and jokes) and the odd carrier slaughter (http://nspta.net/lacon/?a=kill_related&kll_id=69143).

Our campaign against the ever failfest called United continues.  If they would spend more than five minutes outside a station, we might actually get a fight with them.  As it goes, their operations around the system known as Rancer have slowed considerable.  They do continue to camp the Crilere gate as they are infamously known for, but other than that, they are not very active.  They do come out every now and again, but the good ole “Control Q’s” kick in when we log on or even think of the system name Rancer.  Oh well, we expected nothing less.  The ‘Lords of Otou’ shall continue to rule with the strength and honor for which we have always wielded.

The OPML download has been growing for some time now and with the recently ended blogging promotion event between CCP and GameScribe, there are a number of blogs that are simply disappearing, mainly because they were created to participate in the contest.  Now that the promotion contest is over, some of those blogs are no longer in existence and as a result, they will be removed from the OPML download.  I do have some additions to make and an upcoming announcement post will be made this coming Friday.  The OPML us up to date as of this blog posting, so fee freel to download a fresh copy (http://www.eve-druid.com/opml-download).

CrazyKinux has yet again, provided wonderful inspiration for our blogging community.  He has a wonderful contest setup for the next EVE Blog Banter (http://www.crazykinux.com/2009/06/eve-blog-banter-contest.html).  I myself will be writing an article, however, I will not be among those entries being judged for the prizes.  Now before anyone gets worked up, you should know that this was MY idea.  I shall attempt to explain.

CK, James Egan and I do a lot of work together for the blogging community.  CK maintains the EVE blogroll, I maintain the EVE OPML download and James Egan keeps up to date on the EVE community from a variety of information resources, including both postings among the EVE Blogging community and tips that CK and I send to James. Needless to say, we are friends and we do have a decent amount of regular contact with each other.

I have full faith that CK, Zapatero and James could be objective when judging entries, but there are always people who will take relationships such as those I share with CK and James and create a context of impropriety.  Such people would claim that a contest was rigged.  We have all seen such claims on the EVE forums and honestly, it’s usually a bunch of garbage, but the creation of “threadnaughts’ and other related drama end up ruining an otherwise entertaining and fulfilling event.

Rather than leave such potential drama be something that can ruin the honest, open and honorable nature that the EVE Blogging Community holds itself accountable to, I deciced to stop it from happening, hence my decision to ask CK to remove my contribution to the upcoming blog banter from the judging.  Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t kept me from writing a post.  I had an idea and yes I am going to participate in the Blog Banter itself, just not the contest.

Wait people, there is more….

Yup, the EVE COAD forums have been buzzing like crazy and there is lots of discussion.  I won’t go into a summary here as there is a better place for information you should be looking.  I must tip my hat to the ISD folks as they have had a hard job these past few days sorting things out.

With all that has happened with this event being the ultimate drama bomb in EVE Online history, one has to ask, what caused all this?

There are many discussions on this very point, but the long and short of it is a disgruntled director in BOB defected to Goonswarm.  Why was he not happy?  I am sure there are many reasons, but the lessons we all can learn from are these:

• Always maintain good security practices in your corporations/alliances
• Always remove roles from inactive accounts
• Don’t be an arrogant leader, listen to your membership

All of us who are in leadership positions need to remember that we were once just a member, not a director or FC.  We need to keep in mind that we need to keep our membership happy and wanting to support us.

I will sum up what we know.  Seems that Mittani managed to infiltrate one of the director spots in BOB and took 500 million isk from one of the wallets.  He then disbanded the alliance.  BOB directors are maintaining that they did not receive the bill that would come in on the 6th of each month. Problem with this claim, the alliance was formed on the 7th and it was disbanded on the 5th, no bill would have come yet.

You can imagine the storm of posts on the EVE forums right now.  There is already discussion of whether or not CCP will intervene and reverse this event.  In a rare moment of weakness, I posted a response to one of these such threads (http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=990407&page=1#15):

In response to the OP, I have no idea. Since the claims of Mittani are confirmed (http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=990388). This obviously is another in game theft event that is possible by use of in game mechanics. It’s not an exploit, it’s not a bug, it’s a theft, fair and square.

CCP has no right to reverse this event as per terms of their own EULA. To do so would violate every single citation by GM’s of people trying to get their stuff back from a corp theft.

CCP can not take any action other than to kindly dismiss any petitions.

I hate to see a large number of people loose a lot in a sudden event, but it’s the nature of EVE Online and it was only a matter of time before something of this magnitude happened.

Yes, I hate to see something like this happen, but it’s a normal theft and a violation of alliance security.  CCP must maintain integrity in the game, they can not take action on behalf of BOB, they must let things play out as they will play out.

Last night was the first time that real life and EVE obligations did not interfere with my attendance and I am really glad I was able to attend.

For those of you who are not aware, Gank Night is where large numbers of EVE pilots put aside their differences and join up for a roam into 0.0 space.  Care bears, pirates and Alliance PvP pilots all form up under an FC and board the “rape train”.

Last night’s roam theme, Assault Frigates.  We all formed up and headed into CVA space.  Let me tell you, I have been on 0.0 roams before, but I have never had this much fun.  We headed in with the expectation that we would all die a horrible and quick death.  Seems that was not the case.

Never, ever, underestimate large people in stupid numbers.

We headed in with our 50+ man assault frigate gang and made our way into 0.0, towards R3-K7K.  Along the way we encountered a silly executioner pilot that got himself insta-popped by gate sentries and a geddon that learned what it was like to be bumped by 50+ assault frigates.

Our first engagement, as tradition would have it, was supposed to be out last.  We won the engagement without a loss.

So, now what?  Deeper into 0.0 we went.  Through a few systems, a few more skirmished and ultimately into 9UY4-H.  That is where we finally fell, but not after taking quite a few of them with us.

The stats are on a general kill board, http://karbowiak.dk/kb/ganknight/?a=home, many thanks to Karbowiak for setting this up.  As you can see, we did have quite a few kills.  My corp, the Neo Spartans (http://www.nspta.net/?a=cc_detail&ctr_id=3) , did well as we were on 34 of the kills as either a participant to the carnage or the final blow itself.  I do believe that we did score at least 4 of the pod kills.

Gank Night was a lot of fun and for those of you who have never been on a roam, this is a great way to get started.  Some advice I would give you before you go on Gank Night:

• Assume that you will loose your ship, don’t fit anything you can’t loose.
• Assume that you will loose your pod, have spares for those implants or use another clone.
• Assume that you will have a lot of fun!!
