Shirrath, thank you for your comments. I noticed that I didn’t have your blog in the OPML download, I went ahead and added it as well as added you to my blog roll.

As for care bears paying ransoms, I would have to say that we are able to get the ransom 80 percent of the time. On those occasions that we are not able to get the ransom, yes, we do pop them.

Also, there’s the issue of reputation spreading unevenly among pirates and carebears. Unless they’re doing something wrong, carebears interact with pirates very rarely, and thus the pirate’s reputation has little or no effect to the choice of whether to pay a ransom or not.

Here’s what a carebear such as myself thinks when ransomed:
“Oh crap, I’m going to lose my ship, cargo and my pod!”
“If I pay, I can lose my ship, cargo, pod _and_ cash.”

If there is any doubt whatsoever about the honor of the pirate, the carebear will always refuse to pay, The choice is basically between losing a lot and losing even more.

Personally, I have not met a single pirate that even asks for ransom, and I’ve travelled through such Minmatar hotspots such as Amamake, Evati, Gultraten and Frulegur.
