Catching Up | The Wandering Druid of Tranquility

“…where do we go from here?…” Part II

For weeks, life on the station took on a simple routine.  Get up in the morning, help out in the HellFleet mess hall, see the various capsuleer pilots off as they headed out from the station, welcome them home when they returned, eat a good meal with them and revel in their achievements.

Everything was fine with this routine save one particular issue, Hellfleet were pirates.  Would living among pirates be safe was the question that haunted him but not for the obvious reasons.

Karled had a secret to keep and every day being here led him closer to his treachery catching up with him.

He was filled with the dread of the unknown to so many questions.   How safe would his secret be and for how long?  How much time would they have before she showed her face in the station?  Would Taren understand that he had lied to her all this time?

He would know soon enough as his eyes realized his greatest fears.  She was standing there in the mess hall.

The brand new Hellfleet emblem was clear as day upon her uniform.  She had arrived in such an unlikely perceived probability that always seems to catch those guilty of such treacherous acts.  Karled stood there, shocked and frozen in fear.

Neresa was shocked as well.  She was shocked at Ga’len’s message last month.  Neresa had figured that Ga’len was in for the long haul with Ushra’Khan, but the news about the reclaiming of 9UY4-H changed many things across New Eden.  It would seem that such events had led to this fortunate reunion.

Karled could tell easily from looking at Neresa that she was close to state of uncontrolable rage.  The fierceness in her eyes and the way her arms from her shoulders to her fists were rigid told the story of her anger.  Her rage was swelling in her chest as she so spoke loudly that all in the mess hall could hear.

“Hello Karled.  I see that you and that tramp are still together,” she eyed him with such intensity that you could see a hole being burned right through him.  Neresa continued, “What, you don’t recognize your wife?  You know, the woman you loved for years, who bore your child and has spent the last 5 years looking for you?  At least you have taken care of our daughter…oh wait, you let those Amarr bastards have at her!”

Taren looked up from her plate in shock and fear.  She now knew as Karled did that they would not escape from their past.  All questions would soon be answered, everything was to become clear and there would be a reckoning for their crimes.

Breanne was sitting on Ga’len’s lap.  She looked at his face and then at Neresa, speaking slowly, “She’s not a tramp!  You are not my mommy, she is and she loves me!”

Her small hand pointed to Taren.  Taren looked at Breanne with fear in her eyes as she spoke, “You are,” Taren’s mind was trying to piece this all together, “are, alive?  We killed you! Neresa, you can’t be alive!  Karled, we need to get out of here!”

Neresa shouted, “DON’T MOVE YOU BITCH!  YOU STOLE MY HUSBAND AND MY DAUGHTER, YOU WILL PAY!”

Again, silence filled the mess hall as everyone was waiting for someone to make a move.

Ga’len’s voice broke through the quiet like a knife through a thick fog, “So Neresa, you received my message and joined our ranks.  Welcome my old friend, but please, don’t spill any blood yet.”

All eyes turned toward Ga’len as he continued to speak, “Yup, it’s all my fault Karled.  You see, I have a habit of being informed.  You think I would let anyone about my ship without knowing about them?  Funny thing, I was not actively looking, but the medical bays on the D-GTMI Outpost did a good job of checking out you, Taren and Breanne.  DNA scans were part of the check my friend.  It’s too bad for you that Neresa had some DNA data for a jump clone in that station, otherwise your secret would have remained hidden.”

Ga’len slowly looked down into Breanne’s face and spoke softly, “My little acorn, I am so sorry.  My friend Neresa is telling you the truth.  She is your REAL mother.  Taren may have loved you, but she is not your blood.”

Breanne began to cry uncontrollably.

Ga’len held Breanne close and spoke with his ‘fathering voice’ as they all had become to call it, “Breanne, Karled is your father and Neresa is your mother.  Taren and Karled took you away from her a long time ago.”

Breanne looked up at Ga’len’s face, tears streaming down her cheeks.  Her lips were quivering and she tried to speak with a choked voice as she pointed to Neresa, “She’s….my…mommy?”

“Yes my little acorn, ” Ga’len said in a continued calming voice, “Neresa is your mommy and she’s here to take care of you.”

“Will she take me away?” Breanne asked, tears still flowing, “Like Taren and Karled did?  Will the Amarr get me again?”

Neresa came to sit next to Ga’len.  She reached for Breanne and they embraced each other. “No baby, I am not taking you away, I am here to stay.  You, me, Aunt Leainati and Uncle Twig will be your family now.”

Ga’len rose from his seat and stared at Karled, “I don’t know what went on between you and Neresa, but I won’t let this stand.  For the sake of your daughter I will not kill you.  You two will leave here right now and never return.  Breanne will tell you when she wants to see you.  Until that time, I suggest you be elsewhere….now.”

“So, how’s that time warp thingy??”

I have been busy, so busy, that I have had little time for writing as I would like.  I am still working on the Blade of Truth storyline, part four is finished and will go live on July 4th so do keep an eye out for that.  Yes, there is more of that storyline to tell and I am actively working on part five right now.

I have been spending a nice amount of time playing EVE with my fellow corpies.  General ‘yarring’ about has yielded kills, ransoms (both isk and jokes) and the odd carrier slaughter (http://nspta.net/lacon/?a=kill_related&kll_id=69143).

Our campaign against the ever failfest called United continues.  If they would spend more than five minutes outside a station, we might actually get a fight with them.  As it goes, their operations around the system known as Rancer have slowed considerable.  They do continue to camp the Crilere gate as they are infamously known for, but other than that, they are not very active.  They do come out every now and again, but the good ole “Control Q’s” kick in when we log on or even think of the system name Rancer.  Oh well, we expected nothing less.  The ‘Lords of Otou’ shall continue to rule with the strength and honor for which we have always wielded.

The OPML download has been growing for some time now and with the recently ended blogging promotion event between CCP and GameScribe, there are a number of blogs that are simply disappearing, mainly because they were created to participate in the contest.  Now that the promotion contest is over, some of those blogs are no longer in existence and as a result, they will be removed from the OPML download.  I do have some additions to make and an upcoming announcement post will be made this coming Friday.  The OPML us up to date as of this blog posting, so fee freel to download a fresh copy (http://www.eve-druid.com/opml-download).

CrazyKinux has yet again, provided wonderful inspiration for our blogging community.  He has a wonderful contest setup for the next EVE Blog Banter (http://www.crazykinux.com/2009/06/eve-blog-banter-contest.html).  I myself will be writing an article, however, I will not be among those entries being judged for the prizes.  Now before anyone gets worked up, you should know that this was MY idea.  I shall attempt to explain.

CK, James Egan and I do a lot of work together for the blogging community.  CK maintains the EVE blogroll, I maintain the EVE OPML download and James Egan keeps up to date on the EVE community from a variety of information resources, including both postings among the EVE Blogging community and tips that CK and I send to James. Needless to say, we are friends and we do have a decent amount of regular contact with each other.

I have full faith that CK, Zapatero and James could be objective when judging entries, but there are always people who will take relationships such as those I share with CK and James and create a context of impropriety.  Such people would claim that a contest was rigged.  We have all seen such claims on the EVE forums and honestly, it’s usually a bunch of garbage, but the creation of “threadnaughts’ and other related drama end up ruining an otherwise entertaining and fulfilling event.

Rather than leave such potential drama be something that can ruin the honest, open and honorable nature that the EVE Blogging Community holds itself accountable to, I deciced to stop it from happening, hence my decision to ask CK to remove my contribution to the upcoming blog banter from the judging.  Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t kept me from writing a post.  I had an idea and yes I am going to participate in the Blog Banter itself, just not the contest.

Yes, my blog banter post this time is a long read like my last one.  You have been warned.  :P

Anyway, that’s all I have for now, see you out there!!!

Bring out yer dead….DOINK!!…..

No, I have not died.  I have not had a lot of time to play EVE nor make blog entries over the past few days.  Infrasructure issues with electrical power and network have kept me very busy at work.  For those of you who work in IT, you will understand what I mean by crazy when I same T1 outage and UPS failure on the AS/400 and Telecom systems.

Yeah, it’s been a bit trying and I am not out of the woods yet.

So, I will return.  In the mean time, enjoy the patch day.  At least for me, since I am stuck with work issues, I am not missing any game play time.

Cheers!!!

EVE Blog Pack Profile: Colonel Roc Wieler

We of the EVE Blog Pack have started a new feature, the profile post.  This is a posting to introduce many of you to our fellow bloggers and to give you some background on these fine people.

Name/Handle: Colonel Roc Wieler
Blog URL: Roc’s Ramblings at http://everamblings.wordpress.com
Faction: Minmatar Republic
Started EVE: 2006

What brought me here:
My love for science fiction has been something inspired in me since I first Star Wars at the theatre as a kid. I loved the richness of the mythology, the vastness of the universe; the true sense of wonder. So naturally, I played Star Wars Galaxies the day it came out. Played dedicated for five years. The last two years though, I noticed the game was continually being dumbed down. I hate dumbed down. I enjoy depth. Someone mentioned EVE Online to me, and well, been here ever since. Even gave up Star Wars for it, my childhood love.

Playstyle:
I am a Fleet Commander for the Tribal Liberation Force, as well as recently promoted to Fleet Commander in my corp, Freeform Industries. I do missions every now and then, but my real passion is the market. Both my alts are out of the box traders, and I really enjoy the cutthroat nature of doing business.  I’ve never mined, never even opened research or industry, and have never managed a corp. One step at a time.

What keeps me playing:
Ironically, there are two things. The first is that you don’t need to be here 23/7 for fear of missing out on some huge event. That flexibility combined with real time skill training (as opposed to mindless grinding) makes it great for me. During the week, I’m a casual player, and that’s just fine. The second reason I’ve already mentioned indirectly. Depth. Vastness. Mythology. EVE Online is so comprehensive that I am STILL catching up on my reading, just to absorb myself deeper into this universe we call home.

What I write:
My personal blog is all in character (with occasional exception). My approach to writing is a little different than most I am told. I tend to merge real life happenings with ingame happenings, with a bit of complete fantasy mixed in to throw you off. So far, it’s been fun. I am also a columnist over at http://www.eve-mag.com and hope to also get an article or two into EON Magazine. That would be something.

Other Interests:
I am also a co-developer for Capsuleer, the definitive iPhone application for EVE Online. I enjoy making 3D wallpapers as well, and have contributed some to the EVE Online galleries.

What you should know about EVE:
It’s intimidating when you start; overwhelming actually. It’s like learning a new Operating System and learning how to live in a completely new universe all at the same time. But stick with it, seriously. The rewards are worth it.
