Hey, what’s your dream?
Xiphos has an interesting article in his blog, http://xiphos83.wordpress.com/2008/10/01/whats-your-dream-in-eve/, he talks about his dream or ultimate goal for playing EVE.
All of us have goals in EVE, wether or not we realize it. We all want to have fun, be successful in what we are doing (PvP, manufacture, lol moments, etc…). It’s important when playing a game like EVE, where there is no obvious end game, that you identify what it is you want to accomplish. True, this can cost you a significant amount of play time and may lead to the creation of more alts than you ever wanted to do, but you should always set one goal above any other, to have fun. EVE is afterall, a game. A game implies that you play it for entertainment and in short, fun.
I have seen many people play this game with too much intensity towards being the dreaded “power gamer”. You know those people, those who whine constantly on the forums because things are too hard and they were the “uber PvP’er” in WOW.
Have fun, that’s what my dream was, is and continues to be realized.
Want to see a great example of someone having a great deal of fun in EVE? Well, lets all hop into the way back machine and take a look at another blog, now inactive, The EVE Online 0.0 Experiment (http://00experiment.blogspot.com/). It was a simple concept, this guy created an alt and decided to look at the EVE universe a differnet way. There has not been a post for over 2 years now, some say the blogger died in real life, others say that he simply stopped playing, but it’s worth a read.

The 0.0 Experiment was a great read. Fun is definitely my top priority. That is why…although I aim to improve my piloting skills and fly more effectively (read: kill more people, be perceived as more scary)…I just laugh when I get blown up through my own stupidity or simple bad luck. Yeah, losing a ship is like getting socked in the gut sometimes, but if a pilot can’t laugh that kind of thing off or at least just take it in stride, I suggest that person is playing way too seriously.
And while I have a very focused, long-term dream/goal in EVE, the pursuit of it had better be fun or the objective will change.
